We have set up a reading challenge in Class 2 to promote the enjoyment and pleasure of reading which we hope you will support at home, not only for us as a school but for the children as readers. We feel it is important that the children read a wide range of texts for pleasure and recently, we have noticed a decline in the children’s level of enthusiasm for reading. We hope, by using the children’s competitive spirit, we will be able to increase their passion and drive to read for pleasure.
It has been widely shown that reading for pleasure improves mental health and well-being. With an ever–changing society and increasing pressure on young people it is important that the children learn a skill that they can use to escape the pressures. Reading can enable a child to escape to a different world and use their imagination.
